Assignment 6- Noah Ford

My intellectual points of exigence tends to be more towards Engineering, Building and Robotics. I am exited about these three specifically because they all tie together in a process that leaves me a nice sense of accomplishment.

Engineering is a passion of mine because of the limitless possibilities. Some of the choices are biological, civil, mechanical, or electrical engineer. It is whatever floats your boat in engineering. I don't really talk out loud about my engineering designs because my friends aren't interested in engineering. However, I sometimes just think about it and write it in my notebook as a little doodle. I realize that 99% of these ideas are infeasible at this time (the technology needed to develop my designs doesn't exist) but it's fun to think of the possibilities. I am planning on applying to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to major in engineering but failing MIT, then I will apply to University of Kentucky because of its proximity to my home. Engineering helps me with brainstorming ideas for other aspects of life.

Building robots and legos is very exciting because I like to get hands on and watch a structure get slowly assembled. We actually are currently doing a project in Robotics where we follow instructions to build a robot using Allen wrenches, metal shafts, metal screws and motors. I saw the instructions and my brain nearly exploded thinking, "How on earth are we supposed to build this thing?" Then, here we are two weeks later with the completed robot and that warm glow of accomplishment. Building helps me see processes rather than end results.

Robotics is another point of interest because of how it feels to use my intelligence to solve a puzzle and accomplish a specific goal. Like I mentioned earlier, the robot we are building in Robotics requires the use a simplistic version of Python called Blockly in order to program 12 different objectives. Some examples are picking up a bottle with a claw, driving a maze, and other examples. Robotics is more about the capstone than the others, and provides that feeling of accomplishment.

I have an aptitude for engineering, building, and robotics and because of this, they are my best subjects in school. I love that feeling of accomplishment that it brings.
