Assignment 3 - Ethan Scott - "Vacations" in Florida
While I've never left the country or lived anywhere other than Lexington I have a lot of experience with different places in Florida. Most people know Florida as "The Sunshine State" or specifically as their favorite vacation spot. Most of the time I've spent in Florida has been in the small town of Winter Haven about an hour south of Orlando. My mom was born in Florida and grew up in the area Winter Haven so that is where many of my relatives currently live as well. I usually do not get the same kind of vacation most people do in Florida because I spend so much time with Family although it is still technically a vacation. One thing about that area which changes my perspective on the world is the homeless population there. Every time I am in Florida Tuesday nights are spent with my grandparents serving the homeless and less fortunate. These experiences involve 3 to 5 stops at different places around the town where around 150 people are served peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and receive clothes as well as necessities like soap and toothpaste. Through these experiences I have learned to be more appreciative of the little things in life other people are not fortunate enough to not have to worry about.
