Matthew Klee post #3
The summer going into my sophomore year I traveled to Newmarket, England with an exchange program called sister cities. During this program, I stayed in Lexington's sister city (Newmarket) for approximately two weeks at a jockey club (it was a horse town). I had also had an exchange counterpart with whom I traveled with during the day. I went to school with her and found the environment to be very different. Even in public schools, all students were required to wear blazers and pants for guys or skirts and blazers for girls. This made me realize how much different the level of respect in schools was in America v. the UK. In the UK there were very few rowdy students, everyone knew where they needed to be at all times, there was very little downtime during their schedule. However, schools in the UK also had over an hour for lunchtime, they were allowed to leave campus, and they had two breaks besides the lunch break during the school day. This shows that, if given freedom and respect, students can act responsibly.
