Assignment 4 - Beppy Badgett - BLAVY
For a majority of my life my fashion choices where determined by one rule. NEVER mix black and navy. When I was really young this wasn't a problem for me because everything I owned was hot pink, and pink goes with everything, duh. But as I entered middle school, and a strict dress code confined me to polo shirts and khakis, I found it increasingly difficult to create fabulous outfits with out wearing blavy (black and navy). I can even remember not wanting to wear navy pants with my black tennis shoes, as to not violate this rule. When I went to high school, and my new uniform became leggings and a t-shirt, I began to question the blavy rule that had controlled my life for 14 long years. Wasn't navy just really dark blue? I wear blue and black all the time. An aren't jeans technically navy too? Ive worn jeans and a black t-shirt before. Everything I had known for the past 14 years was falling apart. In my fit of outrage and rebellion, I did it. I put on a navy long sleeve UK shirt and a pair of black leggings. Hesitantly I looked in the mirror, I was shocked. I was in love with the new outfit I had created. Suddenly hundreds of new t-shirt-legging combinations popped into my head. I could wear navy leggings with a black sweatshirt. I could wear black leggings with a navy sweater. Confidently I walked down stairs and got in the car to go to school. I felt like a blavy queen. All my friends commented on my new color combo. As I went through my day, I thought "Wow. Why haven't I done this sooner" While black and navy is not my favorite color mix (I normally wear more color) I am so happy I was bold enough to challenge my beliefs and expand my fashion potential.
