Matthew Klee - post #4

The summer going into my freshman year my mom made me go to a UK tennis camp because I wasn't doing anything that summer and she wanted to get me out of the house. At first, I was completely against going because I hadn't played tennis since 3rd grade and was afraid to embarrass myself and the fact that I knew no one who was at the camp. However, during this camp, I learned a lot about tennis, the technique, the strategy, and even racquet type (for I didn't even have a real racquet at the time and had to borrow a coach's). I made many friends at the camp and still hit with some of them today. But, once I joined Henry Clay's tennis team and wanted to start getting better to play competitively my mom started putting a leash on me. She was afraid my grades would drop and that tennis was only a recreational sport. This is something I fought and fought with her about, I wanted to join clinics and play more than once a week. She finally caved and sophomore year I finally got a bit more serious with tennis, I started doing clinics and playing up to four times a week all while keeping my grades up. Now I'm in my junior year, playing at least three times a week (mostly 4-5) and taking lessons regularly, sometimes its a struggle to balance tennis and school but I manage to get it all done. This is something I've been able to prove to my parents, as an idea that differs from theirs.
