Assignment 6- Sam Ederington

Due to my interest in ancient history, and enjoyment of arguing against people, one piece of information that I always found interesting was the misrepresentation of ninjas and Roman legionaries in modern culture. I will take this as an opportunity to rant about these subjects. For example, the idea that ninjas used the katana is fairly ludicrous. In our ideas of European culture do we think of assassins as running around with longswords? No. They run around with daggers. Ninjas used ninjatōs as their sword weapon. Roman history is also extremely interesting and badly described. The legionaries didn’t even exist until the Marian Reforms in 107 B.C., right before Julius Caesar’s birth. In addition, the military unit of a century did not consist of 100 legionaries. It rather depended on the time, but tended to be closer to 80. Also Julius Caesar was never emperor, he only became dictator. Augustus was the first emperor.
