I’ve always enjoyed math and science more than other subjects in school, but over the past couple of years this has been especially evident to me. The Liberal Arts Academy allows little space for electives, but all three years I’ve been at Henry Clay I’ve taken a math or science elective and have enjoyed all three. My freshman and sophomore year I took both AP computer science classes and they were my favorite classes of high school. Coding is something I love to do because although there is a definitive correct answer like math and science, there is no definitive right way to solve the problem. With enough tools and determination, coders feel like they can tackle any issue. The satisfaction coding gives me is part of the reason I want to major in computer science in college. This year, I was out of computer science classes to take, so I decided to try a science elective. AP Chemistry is ultimately what I went with because I enjoyed the rigid process of chemistry last year. So far, the class has been a balanced mix of interesting labs and theory lectures. Chemistry is interesting because it combines theoretical mathematics with real-world applications and I get to experience both in the classroom. These three classes have helped me discover more about myself as a person and my interests in an academic setting.
