Assignment #5 - Andrea Dubon - Queen elizabeth would've loved tv

Do i think tv longterm is good for us health wise? no. We've all seen the studies pushed by people on the news , haha still tv, and our doctors on how extended tv watching can lead to sight problems among other issues, however it as an institution isn't out of the ordinary. While it is sad that society as a whole prefers the Emmy's to the nobel prize winnings it isn't much of a surprise. We as people always dig up whatever event or activity we can to entertain ourselves sometimes to the detriment of other more academic events, but this has been going on since the dawn of time and isn't new to the invention of tv. Even monarchs like Queen Elizabeth the first who logically should've been focused on political or world issues made time to watch plays by shakespeare, even going so far as to asking him not to kill of her favorite character or continue writing storylines. People have always prioritized personal interests over things that have more "value" since forever so it isn't a surprise that people aren't paying attention  to the televised nobel prize awarding. From what i've seen tv is starting to come full circle with the increase of televised ads. I know that as a kid i barely recall seeing commercials on tv and now they can take up 30 minutes of what should be an hour long show thus having tv give way to streaming platforms like netflix and hbo, however most of these platforms have their own charges but don't include the intervening of ads. While the invention of tv's are still in use the way we go about it has changed from cable to streaming quicker than most companies have expected. This does however prompt me to ask whether the disparity in money being gained through getting customers to make purchases through ads is equal to the price most of us are paying for these streaming networks to not air them. Overall tv hasn't presented any amount of issues in terms social priorities that we haven't seen but the issues surrounding getting the entertainment has certainly changed.
