Assignment 2- Katherine Henson- Book Club

This is a hard post to write because I'm not much of a reader, which is something I constantly feel guilty about. Last year, one of my New Year's resolutions was to read 10 books which I completed over winter break after reading 10 Christmas romance novels. I set the same goal this year, and I am definitely on a better path to completion than last year. However, when I do read, I do not read the highest quality literature. Most of the books I read are what I would classify as trashy pageturners that are targeted for 50-year-old women. I am confident that I will like whatever Debbie Macomber writes, although some are better than others. Last week I finished the book Dumplin'loaned to me by the fabulous Abby Shadwick. Books like these provide an escape that I think literature is intended to provide but definitely are not mentally challenging or stimulating. One of my favorite books that I read last year was a short read titled Dinner with a Perfect Stranger by David Gregory. This book tells about a man that sits down with Jesus at a restaurant and the fictional conversation that takes place over dinner is very reflective and insightful. Another genre of books that I have been very interested in is biographies. Recently I read Dave's Way written by Dave Thomas the founder of Wendy's. I loved this book and I think that everyone should read it. Thomas created an honest company from humble beginnings and inspires greatness with his book. As I write this post, I'm sitting at the library, one of my favorite places to work. Maybe before I leave I'll pick up a couple books but no promises that they won't be from the romance section.
