Conflicted on Conflict-Connor Foley Assignment 9

The act of war is a twisted concept. There has never been a good war. I however believe that sometimes, despite the horror of it, war is necessary, in the case of fighting for the greater good. Would a peaceful agreement that involved the freedom of the slaves been far preferable to the bloody conflict that is the Civil War? Obviously. But a peaceful agreement did not occur, and had it not been for the war itself and the victory in the North, the slaves might not have been freed even today. Petty wars do also take place. Land disputes, religious disputes, simple power struggles, all very minor issues in the grand scheme of it all. And yet wars have been fought over such trivial ideas for as long as we've walked this Earth. War is bad. That much is definitive. But sometimes, a cause is worth fighting for, even at the great cost of war.
