Assignment #14 - Andrea Dubon - Facebook season
My parents, like most above 30, are a part of the Facebook community. While i have my own opinions on this platform i can say that it connects us to our family in honduras. Because of their ability to see into our lives flexing online has become a crucial part of thanksgiving. Despite no one in my family actually liking turkey , outside of sandwiches, it's become a tradition to have one on our dinner table if only to say that we ate it. On a more delicious note, 3 days before thanksgiving my family and friends get together to make tamales. In my house a holiday isn't official unless it comes with a tamale, this for me means hours of stirring and folding all of which is worth it to see those powerful heart emojis from our family on Facebook. Something that we've adopted over the years is sweet potato casserole, otherwise known as the consumable manifestation of diabetes. What always looked like a cheerful dish with it's bright color and soft marshmallows gave me no indication to the monstrous amount of sugar that goes into it. Because of it's deliciousness my family and i have unanimously decided to ignore that and have been making it successfully for going on 4 years (we've had some close calls though, pro tip marshmallows are incredibly flammable).
