Assignment 13-Tag Howard
A global issue that has received very little public attention is the lack of IP addresses (the names computers give to each other) and phone numbers. Most people don't realize, but both of these systems have an upper limit and if/when we reach it there simply will be no new phone numbers and no now internet connections. Now, this is obviously a problem, but I have a solution. Better names. Most phones and computers are owned by someone, so it makes sense to have those phones and computers called by the name of their owner. If we replaced phone numbers and IP addresses with people's names then I could just replace the +1 (859) 245-8463 with John Smith on my phone. But there is an obvious problem here, some people have the same name. Fortunately, there is an easy solution: to replace all names with numbers. But you might say, but won't we still run out of digits? No, we won't. Because once the international agency for providing these numbers is set up (as would obviously be needed) we can simply set a maximum number, say 7 billion. And once we get over the limit we can simply dispose of extra numbers. As a plus, this limitation can also help with the overpopulation issue. When it comes to implementation there would obviously be opponents, and if they don't want to join the system they can simply be the last ones to be counted, and deal with any subsequent, shall we say...effects.
