Assignment 15 - Averi Ricks - Robots Destroying Each Other Are Pretty Cool
I am absolutely OBSESSED with this show called Battlebots. It's literally robot fighting, but let me explain a little. It's not human versions of robots, it's more compact, smaller robots with "weapons" that they use to destroy the other bot. The robots aren't small, but for comparison, one guy is about 6 feet tall and his comes up to his knee and is almost the same length as his arms stretched out side to side. The weapons can be literally anything, for example hammers, fire, vertical spinners, horizontal spinners, lifters, grabbers, punchers, stabbers, full body spinners, forks, and a lot more. The ultimate goal is to literally destroy the other bot, whether that be just taking a tire off or completely tearing apart the entire robot. There have been many instances where a robot catches on fire or all of the wires come out of it; those are the best fights. The fights are set up like an actual boxing match; the robots start in their own corners as well as the people controlling them, the match is only 90 seconds long, and once a robot is unable to move efficiently the countdown begins for them to be knocked out. If both last the entire time, it goes to the judges. I don't know why this interests me so much; I've always been interested in robotics, so when I found this show I was hooked. I'm actually taking robotics now, and it's my favorite class! When we first made our robot and I got it to work, I thought that was the coolest thing ever. I even tried convincing my teacher to let us have a fight like Battlebots, but he said he doesn't want to destroy any robots. When I want to learn more, I usually watch old fights or interviews with the builders, or I go on their social media because they all post a lot about any updates to their bots. If you think this is stupid, go on YouTube and search "Top 20 moments from Battlebots 2019." You won't be disappointed.
