Assignment 20 - Averi Ricks

I had to be on crutches for about a month, so I'd say I'm an expert at using them. I'm gonna teach you how to go up and down stairs on them.

Going up:
1. Make sure you're balanced before you start.
2. Bring your good leg up and step on the step.
3. Step and bring your crutches up.
4. Find your balance again.
5. Repeat until you're up the stairs.
Pro tip: Don't try to go fast even if there are people behind you, you'll lose your balance and fall.

Going Down:
1. Make sure you're balanced.
2. Bring the crutches down and put them on the step.
3. Push down into the crutches with your hands (for balance) and step down with your good leg.
4. Find your balance again (going down is kinda scary because it's hard to keep your balance because of gravity so this is very important).
5. Repeat until you're up the stairs.
Pro tip: Don't try to go fast because when you're going down it's A LOT easier to lose your balance and you'll fall (like me :) ).

Proest tip: If you're going up and down skinny stairs (like stairs to a basement) and there's a railing on both sides, don't use your crutches at all, just use the railing, it's a lot easier. If there's only a railing on one side, use a crutch on the side that doesn't have a railing. Remember to go slow, especially on skinny steps, because balance is everything and falling down a flight of stairs is pretty scary.
