Assignment 9 - Jordan Grady - Why War?

When I think of war, I imagine the casualties and destruction, not those saved as a result. War is a tricky topic to navigate, and personally, I find it hard to justify. However, there are times in which beliefs or safety is threatened, leading to these large-scale conflicts. In a perfect world, it would be possible for all of our issues to be resolved through diplomacy and compromise. In reality, we are burdened with complexities that make this idea of a “perfect world” seem unrealistic in practice.
There are times in which people are stripped of their rights, threatened, and physically injured. When clashing ideals or practices result in the harming of innocent civilians, the government should be held accountable for taking some sort of action. In my opinion, it is logical to go to war only if the alternative options would lead to greater harm of one’s constituents - the welfare of the people must be prioritized if agreements cannot by met without any form of violence.
